Finishing / coiling temperature control, thickness and profile control.

Supply chain

Hot strip mills are supplied by the same metallurgical engineering groups and Chinese heavy-equipment makers. For motor buyers the relevance is indirect: hot-band temperature control influences the grain structure and magnetic properties of the finished electrical steel.

Buyer FAQ

Why does a motor maker care about the hot strip mill?
Electrical steel starts as hot-rolled coil. Hot-rolling temperature, finishing and coiling conditions set the grain structure and texture that later cold rolling and annealing build on — they influence the final core loss and permeability of the grade you buy.
Can I buy electrical steel directly from a mill?
Mills sell in full coils and usually through service centres or large stamping houses. Smaller buyers in the Pearl River Delta normally buy slit coil from a mill service centre or distributor, with the mill certificate passed through.
What should I check when comparing mills?
Guaranteed core loss and polarisation at your working induction and frequency, thickness tolerance and flatness, coating type, and consistency between coils and heats — ask for statistical data, not just the catalogue maximum.
