Supply chain
Dongguan and Shenzhen have domestic makers of X-ray inspection systems for electronics and castings. Die-cast end caps are usually X-rayed at start-up and after die changes.
Buyer FAQ
- What is X-ray inspection used for in motor making?
- Two main uses: checking porosity and shrinkage in die-cast aluminium end caps and housings (especially at bearing seats), and checking solder voids under power MOSFETs and BGA/QFN parts on driver boards.
- 2D X-ray or CT?
- 2D (with oblique views) is fast and enough for routine porosity and void checks. CT gives full 3D defect size and position and is used for first-article approval, process development and failure analysis.
- What acceptance limits are typical?
- For castings, ASTM E505 reference radiographs or a customer porosity standard with zone-based limits; for solder joints, IPC-A-610 / IPC-7095 void limits, often tightened to under 25 % void area under power devices.
